Greetings from the Spacecoast Freewheelers!
Welcome to our small home on the web. Our members live all along the beautiful Spacecoast and our group rides range over much of east central Florida. The rides are casual in nature with occasional intervals and vary in length from 30 to 60 miles. No one is ever dropped and sometimes we end with a stop at the local watering hole for food and drink. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned vet looking for a group to ride with all are welcomed. Just be ready to make some new friends. We do hope you enjoy your visit to our web site and that you come ride with us soon.
2010 Cross Florida Bike Ride
Last year the Spacecoast Freewheelers took back the Cross Florida after a 6 year absence and we're really excited about 2010. So all you endurance riders mark your calendars for this year's Cross Florida. It will take place on May 2, 2010 (Sunday) starting at 6:30am from Alan Shepard Park at the eastern terminus of SR-520 in Cocoa Beach, FL. For more information check out the events page.
Check out the Photos webpage!
The photos section has been massively updated. See all of your favorite Freewheelers in full vivid color riding their bikes and drinking coffee. If you have photos of any of our club rides you'd like to share on our Flickr site please email me for info on posting them.
Follow the Spacecoast Freewheelers on Twitter
Yup you heard that right, for those of you that find it too hard to check the ride schedule on the web site you can have the schedule texted to your cell phone. If you don't have a Twitter account join up. Then just follow us at http://twitter.com/scfreewheelers or send a SMS text message to 40404 reading "follow scfreewheelers", minus the quotes of course. Then follow the instructions you receive on your phone. Remember standard texting charges apply. The only tweets we'll be making to this service will be ride related. Once a week you'll receive a message with the schedule of rides for that week and then any last minute time changes or cancellations.
Club Rides, Rules & Etiquette
Some or our rides have gotten faster over the course of the last year, but remember we want to keep safe first and foremost. So please obey all traffic laws and paceline etiquette. If you're unfamiliar with pacelines and new to our group please seek out the ride leader to get some pointers.
Also because of the large groups coming out we would like to try and break the Wednesday and Sunday rides up into two groups. So a slower group riding at 17-20mph depending on wind conditions will separate early on and ride as a GROUP. We think this will work out better than having riders attempt to keep up with a faster group and then winding up riding alone when the pace is too high.
Wednesday afternoon C rides
If you're not into speeding around and want a relaxed afternoon ride please join our Spacecoast Freewheeler Rockettes for their Wednesday afternoon ride along Rockledge Dr. They start at 5:30pm from Murdock's Bistro, 600 Brevard Ave in Cocoa Village.
Come on out for our Saturday C rides
We have a C level ride scheduled every Saturday @ 9:00am. Come on out for a nice leisurely ride along beautiful River Road through Rockledge and Cocoa. The pace of these rides will be somewhat slower than our regular group rides, between 14-16mph. But whatever your pace you won't be dropped. So this will be a perfect way for beginners to introduce themselves to the dynamics of riding in a group. And a nice social recovery ride for the roadies out there. Optionally, after the ride we like to get together in Cocoa Village for some coffee. See you all there!
